Bloomsbury Films
Role: FCP Editor
Dates: June 2009-present
Bloomsbury produce corporate films and film/edit live events. The Bloomsbury Films style is strongly documentary driven, so as editor it is imperative that I have strong narrative building skills. Quick decision making coupled with excellent attention to detail is imperative to consistently produce work to the creative directors impeccably high standards.
For every live event that Bloomsbury produce, it is often a requirement to produce a short form promo version of the edit. This process requires a very creative yet concise editing approach as the promo has to maintain the same sense of narrative that the long form edit possesses. This process has honed my decision making skills and allowed me to continually push myself creatively within this role.
With regards to the corporate work Bloomsbury generates, strong client facing skills are essential, so a confident attitude is required to assure the client they are in good hands. Bloomsbury always aims to involve the client in the creative process so excellent communication skills are crucial to understanding and implementing their creative vision, yet it is also important to be able to communicate my own creative ideas and suggestions in a succinct and coherent way.
As well as working with directors and clients, it is also a requirement to work independently. This requires an organised, pro-active attitude and good problem solving abilities to efficiently attend to multiple tasks throughout the day.
Working with the creative director I have greatly improved Bloomsbury's post production facilities in the last year. This has entailed researching new technologies and presenting solutions to the company to improve production value and efficiency. I have also created Flash video content for use on the Bloomsbury Films website.
